Irakli Kobakhidze: 117 MPs out of 150 and 5 Parliamentary Parties out of 8 support the Constitution

According to the Speaker, if the President realizes the veto in line with the agreement between the Parliament and the Venice Commission, it will be the most optimal step.

We offered the President to realize the veto in line with the agreement between the Parliament and the Venice Commission concerning two issues – withdrawal of the bonus system from the new edition and single manner maintenance of the blocs. If the President realizes his right on veto in this manner, it will be the most optimal step to enforce the Parliament-Venice Commission agreement. Let’s wait for developments”.

He noted that no high positive estimation can be given to the pre-adoption processes of the Constitutional law. “I cannot give the positive estimation to the processes held prior to adoption of the Constitution. The President and so-called 20 parties managed to in a couple of days develop the new Constitution. We were blamed of acceleration of development of the document while it took 3-4 days for them to develop the new Constitution. I say “so-called” about these parties because we all know that there are no 20 parties in Georgia.

Besides, the document is called as the “document of consent” when our document is supported by 117 MPs out of 150 and 5 Parliamentary parties out of 8. There are the President and 20 parties on the other side with their subjective interests and the “document of consent” they have developed. Naturally, we cannot give the positive estimation to this”.
