Venice Commission President: Georgia is approaching a very good Constitution

“Georgia is approaching a very good Constitution in compliance with European standards”, - Venice Commission President, Gianni Buquicchio stated after the plenary session. 

According to him, the Constitutional reform is a very important step forward and Georgia is approaching a new Constitution which is in compliance with European standards. “Constitutional reform is a very important step forward. As I have already reiterated, since 90s, we cooperate with Georgia regarding the Constitution. Now, step by step Georgia is approaching a very good Constitution in compliance with European standards. Most of the Constitutional changes are supported by Venice Commission”.

There are some issues we might have dissent but I believe that we are on a correct path to the optimal decision. I believe that Georgian Parliament will find the best decision for Georgia, he stated. Georgian Parliament does its best for consensus.

“We have always stated that a good Constitution will be valued and beneficial for the country. You need as wider consensus as possible and I believe that Georgian Parliament does its best to achieve consensus. Of course, policy is not always an ideal world, there always is some tension but I believe that we are on a correct path”.
